It’s All Star Weekend! No not NBA All Stars, although I hear that is going on too… No, No, the only good reality show on TV, The Amazing Race is back with their “All Star” season.
It’s a great show if for no other reason, than because it is the ONLY reality show where your survival depends on your wits, skill, and a bit of luck. No votes here, the contestants have real impact on their fate. A bad decision could cost them, not because somebody might “vote them off the island” because of it, but rather because it could send you off on a goose hunt causing you to fall behind… It’s a race after all…
Unfortunately in an attempt to keep the show “fresh” they’ve also caved in to the latest reality show trend… “the all star” season where contestants from previous season come back to try it again. Some of the teams I’m happy to see again, others well not so much.
Take for instance Rob & Amber- Do these two need any more publicity? Really, this is their FOURTH CBS reality appearance, not counting miscellaneous other appearances. Both have already been on Survivor twice, and now on Amazing Race. Their first appearance brought the game to a new low, Rob is a coniving turd who will do what he can to take advantage of others so that he can do as little as possible. Their play is probably a touch shy of cheating, they’re probably also the one team that EVERYBODY is gunning for.
There’s “Team Guido” a pair of “life partners” or something silly like that. They’re the only two other players that I can think of who are almost as devious and sneaky as Rob and Amber. While I dislike them about as much as Rob and Amber, it will be interesting to see them pick at each other.
And there is probably the most annoying team in Amazing Race history, Myrna and Charla aka Myrna and Smyrna. Charla is a dwarf and Myrna is her cousin. Charla is actually a tough cookie and a pretty fierce competitor, her cousin on the other hand is a whiney annoying turd.
Now the producers also brought back one of the more popular teams, Kevin and Drew aka The Frat Boys. They’re stubborn, they butt heads, they’re best friends, and they’re funny as hell! This week was a prime Frat Boy exchange:
Kevin: Peru it’s nice. It’s beautiful out.
Drew:Â I’m sure it’s nice in Peru. We’re in Ecuador.
They are a few teams that I wonder what they were thinking when they invited them back. Take David and Mary aka Kentucky. They’re a dirt poor cool miner family who had never traveled before appearing on the show. that I guess people were enamored by when they were on last season. Personally, I thought they were a bit on the ignorant side. From the same season was Dustin and Candace who were a pair of beauty queens, they survived on dumb luck last time.
Either way, it’s going to be an interesting season. …
