This is one of those stories that is just so absurd that I can’t help but wonder if it’s really true…
According to The Register the UK is planning on banning Samurai swords. In the interest of public safety, replica Samurai swords are going to be banned, but authentic Japanese Samurai swords are ok. The thought being that a criminal wouldn’t be bothered with a real Samurai sword which is expensive, so the UK wants to ban the cheap knockoffs… Kind of makes sense right…
Here’s where the story makes its turn towards absurdity - It seems that estimated 350,000 British Jedi are concerned about the new legislation. Ok, before I go any further - Jedi?!? As in “there’s a disturbance in the force” Jedi?!? As in characters FROM A MOVIE!!!???!!! So do these dweebs try to use the Jedi mind trick to on the baristas at the local Starbucks to get free coffee? Wait, let’s play this scene out shall we?
‘Hapless’ Starbucks Barista- “Welcome to Starbucks, what can I get you?”
Indie-Anna Jones (yes according to the article that’s the name of one of the “Jedi”)-Â “I will have a grande mochachino with light foam.”
HSB- “Ok that’s a grande mochachino with light foam anything else?”
IAJ- “You will not charge me for my mochachino…”
HSB- “Excuse me?”
IAJ- “You do not desire my money. You will bring me a mochachino at no charge. Do not resist the power of The Force”
HSB- “Oh, wait you’re one of those dodgy Jodi, Jucy, Jedi or something or other. Look my manager told me about you nutters, either pay for the mochachino or leave. Oh and I’m supposed to tell you that your mind tricks or something won’t work with me or something like that”
IAJ- “The Force is strong with this one. I can see from the ripples in The Force that we will meet again.”
Sorry for that diversion, hey this blog is called Aimless Wandering for a reason…
Anywho back to the story-Â It seems that Jedi in the UK are concerned that the new legislation may prevent them from carrying other types of replica weapons like say fake light sabers…Â Never mind that there aren’t any real light sabers…Â And the UK Jedi are concerned that the replicas that they carry now will not be of much use should they suddenly find themselves in a battle with one of the Dark Lords of the Sith or for that matter with legion or two of the Empire’s clone soldiers.
I really like Star Wars, I rushed out and bought the trilogy when it first came out on VHS, and did it again when the Special Edition came out on VHS… But I’ve got nothing on these guys…
