So I’ve made a few posts about the iPhone and what I thought about it. I had been planning on taking a serious look at the iPhone anyway when it came out. Now however, it’s pretty definite that I won’t be getting an iPhone his year.
Today my office had a going away gathering for my counterpart, after a lunch at Chili’s we headed over to the local mini-golf and go kart track for a little fun. It all came to a crashing conclusion when I got back to my office and looked at my cell phone and discovered that it looked like this:
That would be the screen of my phone, the black crease in the lower left is apparently a cracked LCD screen. The entire screen is a touch screen over an LCD screen. The touch screen is completely undamaged, however the LCD beneath the touch screen cracked. With the LCD cracked, the screen is unusable. While the phone still works, nothing else does…
So, this meant a run to the Cingular store to replace the phone. I will say this, it was the easiest transaction I’ve had to do so far, in less than 10 minutes I had a brand new Treo 750.
So far, I like the phone and I think it lives up to the positive reviews that it has gotten. However, I’ve discovered a few things about it, that reminded me why I started to dislike devices from Palm… My last two pocket pc phones connected to my pc and was able to charge using just a standard USB to mini-USB cable. Palm phones on the other hand use a proprietary connector to sync and charge, and if that wasn’t bad enough, Palm phones don’t come with a cable that can sync and charge the phone, you need the AC adapter to charge the phone.
I haven’t played with much yet, but it so far the sound quality is terrific. I think this phone also performs noticeably faster than my old one. The Treo has voice dialing, however unlike my old phone which used a proprietary program that was pretty simple, the Treo uses Microsoft’s Voice Command. Voice Command is actually a really good piece of software, I just have absolutely no idea how to use it! There are a few other features that look really cool… once I figure out how to use them… I’ll do a real review later… Maybe
