I've never been a fan of spam plug-ins.  I've found that the built in moderation of WP + Akismet + Blacklisting IP's really seems to be the best way to go.

But, if that's not enough, poke around the internets and find some re-write rules for your .htaccess file that keeps them from hitting the site at all.

And, finally, trying making a rule for all of the "Please moderate" comments that land in your inbox.  It's an easy way to keep them out of your hair since most of them are spam anyway.</description>
